Concussions are underreported in college sports.
Student athletes fail to report head injuries in an effort to stay in the game and to avoid facing judgement by their peers.
HeadStrong is a web app made specifically with student athletes in mind. Through a decision-making video simulation, student athletes will indirectly experience head-injuries and learn about the symptoms of concussions. HeadStrong encourages athletes to report their injuries immediately for a faster recovery, and emphasizes the instant benefits that follow. With the completion of the web app, our goal is to inspire, educate, and change the stigma behind concussions for student athletes.
The NCAA has awarded grants to eight universities around the United States to support the development of a solution that will increase awareness about the dangers of concussions, and ultimately change the stigma of reporting concussions in collegiate sports. Students from the New Media Institute at the University of Georgia have partnered with the UGA Department of Kinesiology to develop a solution.
